Jeffrey Shagawat (aka Bill Shag) is an award-winning photographer who was born in New Jersey and raised in New York.
After graduating with a B.F.A. in Creative Writing at The New School for Social Research, he spent years in publishing. He was the Executive Editor for Eastern Edge Magazine and Editor-In-Chief of Design for Living. He has written articles, edited, and taken pictures for many publications including the Village Voice, Hollywood Reporter, Panache, Razorcake and Vent Magazine.
In 2004, Jeffrey moved to Los Angeles to pursue photography full time. Using vintage cameras, non-traditional processing, and film he has created a style all his own. His work has been displayed in galleries across the U.S. and abroad including AnnaKustera in Chelsea; the Scott Eder Gallery in DUMBO; Produce in Phoenix; Dream Space Gallery in London; Diskaire in Lille; and Unitard, 72 degrees & Sunny, and Melt Down in Los Angeles. He was also part of the Hello Living Art Walk curated by Beast Social and Eat Your Art Out III & IV .
Recently, Jeffrey showed at the Salmagundi Club in the West Village. He was awarded a "Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Work" and was acclaimed by the president of the prestigious establishment as "being the oldest soul and the youngest member."
Jeffrey is currently compiling and creating images for "New Brain: The Benefit," a multi-media retrospective chronicling his past year battling brain cancer.
He resides in Lower Manhattan where he continues to make friends and enemies through photography.
